The Patrick Rush Service Award seeks to remove the financial barrier for students who demonstrate the drive and determination to reach their education goals despite the challenges that are presented by a positive HIV status and on-going addiction recovery. This is a merit-based scholarship of up to $5,000 awarded each year by Alliance for Housing and Healing, in conjunction with the Best in Drag Show. The award is paid directly to the winner’s accredited educational institution to help cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, and supplies. The award may be paid in established increments. The winner also receives referral services and other support that encourages a continuing recovery and future success.
The Patrick Rush Service Award was established in 2010 in honor of Patrick who has tirelessly demonstrated his heartfelt dedication to the mission of Alliance for Housing and Healing. Through his work in establishing the Battle for the Tiara fundraiser along with Alexis Pittman and keeping the tradition alive through the Best in Drag Show, Patrick and his friends have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Alliance for Housing and Healing and in doing so provided the basic necessities of life to those who are suffering with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles. The Patrick Rush Service Award recognizes the love and dedication that Patrick has poured into the Best in Drag Show, by allowing qualified individuals to pursue their education.
