Named for philanthropist and leveraged buyout industry pioneer Leonard I. Green, The Green Foundation focuses its Human Services giving on institutions that “provide hope and support to those least able to help themselves.” The Green Foundation’s initiatives are perfectly in line with Alliance for Housing and Healing’s mission to “provide the basic necessities of life to men, women, children and families living with HIV/AIDS through a safety net of essential housing and direct supportive services.”
Through our programs, people with HIV/AIDS who are struggling with poverty and chronic illnesses receive the counseling, housing support and financial help they need to avoid homelessness, keep the lights on and the water running, put food on the table, and obtain the non-prescription items they need for hygiene and comfort. The Green Foundation saw the wisdom in our approach to stability and self-care and responded with a generous $25,000 grant in 2013 for our Wellness Program. The program assists AIDS-impacted clients meet their nutritional and pharmaceutical needs with:
Food: Through case management, referrals to nutritional counselors and other care specialists, and supermarket vouchers, clients are helped to understand the importance of and obtain the foods most recommended for HIV- and highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-specific diets.
Wellness Items: Through case management, referrals to nutritional counselors, other care specialists and participating pharmacies, clients are helped to understand the importance of and obtain nutritional supplements and vitamins indicated for HIV health and adherence to HAART and to help counteract the often debilitating gastro-intestinal side effects of AIDS drug treatments with pain remedies, anti-nausea medications and incontinency supplies not covered by Medi-Cal or other benefits.
Thank you, Green Foundation!
