Hasencamp_grayA year ago, Alliance for Housing and Healing honored Laurie Hasencamp at its “A Faire of the Heart” gala for her continuing efforts to fight hunger and homelessness among disadvantaged people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County. Laurie has deep roots with Alliance for Housing and Healing, having served on the board of directors of The Serra Project—one of AHH’s two founding organizations— for six years. Laurie was instrumental in the successful merging of The Serra Project with Aid For AIDS in 2009 and, though no longer on the board, she and her husband, Michael Lurey, remain committed supporters of our organization and its mission.

Retired from practicing law, Laurie now brings a wealth of knowledge to her advocacy role for groups dealing with LGBTQ issues and HIV/AIDS, including the Williams Institute Founders Council, Lambda Legal Board of Directors, Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, USC Law School Board of Councilors and the GLSEN National Leadership Council. She came out of retirement in 2012 to serve as the Interim Executive Director for Equality CA for nearly a year.

Laurie has received numerous awards and recognition for her work, including the Visionary Award from Alliance for Housing and Healing, the Co-President’s Award from the Lesbian & Gay Lawyers Association, the Paul Starke Warrior Award from the City of West Hollywood and the Allies for Justice Award from the National LGBT Bar Association.

Thank you, Laurie! Your years of dedication and contributions to The Serra Project, Aid For AIDS and Alliance for Housing and Healing have helped to ensure that hundreds of low-income, AIDS-impacted individuals in Los Angeles have food on the table, a place to call home and regular access to the medical care they so desperately need.
