8,030 meals! That is the total number of lunches and dinners (and the occasional hot breakfast) that is cooked by our staff for the 11 residents of Soldano House each year. No wonder the stove wore out.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Ahmanson Foundation, Alliance for Housing and Healing was able to purchase a brand new industrial stove for Soldano House.
Soldano House is one of our four group homes that provides 24/7 care for people who are suffering with HIV/AIDS and would otherwise be homeless. The Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) help the residents with vital daily tasks including dispensing medication, assisting with personal hygiene, and cooking meals. These home cooked lunches and dinners bring the residents together around the dining room table like a real family. For some, this is the only “family” they have known since their diagnosis and that kind of social support provides healing.
“Now our CNAs will be able to cook healthy, bountiful meals for our residents,” Vicki Freda said as she admired the shiny new stove during installation, adding, “Fried chicken is a favorite dinner, but we often choose to make a healthier version that is baked.” Slow cooked casseroles and briskets make Soldano House smell great throughout the day. This new oven will be able to handle recipes that call for long cooking times.
One Soldano House resident extended a heartfelt invitation to the Ahmanson Foundation to join her for dinner.
