Legacy Giving

Support Homes, Health, and Healing

Planned Giving is an excellent way to leave a meaningful legacy to Alliance for Housing and Healing and provide essential housing and supportive services to people living in poverty with HIV/AIDS or other challenging health conditions.

When you remember Alliance for Housing and Healing in your will or trust, as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan, or as part of a gift that pays you income during your lifetime, you are ensuring that Alliance will be here to care for everyone who turns to us for help.

You have important priorities for your family and loved ones, and we know that their health and financial well-being comes first. When you are ready, we will be here to help you shape a charitable gift plan that suits your needs and allows you to keep helping with our important work. Please contact Brian Sharp at [email protected] or call (213)201-1439 to learn about the many ways you can support Alliance.

Special Tax Incentives for Giving in 2021

Congress has provided several economic incentives to help address the far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Note that these incentives are temporary and are scheduled to expire at the end of 2021. Please consult your financial advisor.

  • You may deduct gifts of cash to most public charities to offset as much as 100% of your income! For the 2021 tax year, you may deduct cash contributions to Alliance for Housing and Healing and most other public charities to offset up to 100% of your income. Ordinarily, the income tax charitable deduction for cash gifts is limited to 60% of your income. This 100% limit allows especially generous donors to reduce their federal income tax to zero.
  • If you do not itemize your deductions, you can reduce your taxable income by up to $300 (or $600 for married couples filing jointly) for contributions of cash to public charities in 2021.

Qualified charitable distributions are still a great way to make contributions if you are 70½ or older. A qualified charitable distribution (“QCD” or “IRA charitable rollover”) allows you to make a tax-free gift of up to $100,000 to Alliance for Housing and Healing from your IRA if you are 70½ or older. This is a great way to make tax advantageous contributions, especially if you don’t itemize your deductions.

Giving Options

A charitable gift from your estate is a favored method of giving that enables you to achieve your financial goals and benefit Alliance. No other planned gift is as simple to make or as easy to change, should you ever need the assets during your lifetime.

Here is a tax-smart way to make an impact to Alliance for Housing and Healing using your traditional or Roth IRA. The IRA charitable rollover (also called the Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD) is a great way to make a tax-free gift to Alliance and satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). If you are not required to take an RMD but no longer itemize your deductions, then a QCD may be right for you as well.

How Do I Qualify?
The IRA charitable rollover (QCD) offers multiple benefits for making gifts from your traditional or Roth IRA.

    • You must be 70 ½ years or older at the time of the gift.
    • Gifts must go directly from your IRA to Alliance for Housing and Healing.
    • Gifts must come from a traditional IRA or Roth IRA account.
    • Gifts cannot exceed $100,000 per donor per year.

Benefits of an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift

  • If you don’t itemize deductions and are not yet required to take your RMD, a QCD offers all of the benefits of an itemized income tax charitable deduction
  • If you are age 72 or older and must take your RMD, a QCD can satisfy your RMD without increasing your income taxes.
  • You may direct your gift to a program or area of your choice.
  • It is a wonderful way to create an immediate impact on Alliance.

How can I make an IRA Charitable Rollover?
Contact your IRA administrator for their QCD distribution form and information on the procedure to make such a gift.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities
A charitable gift annuity provides fixed payments for life in exchange for a gift of cash or securities to Alliance for Housing and Healing. Gift annuities are easy to set up and the payments you receive are backed by the general resources of Alliance.
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder unitrust can help you maintain or increase your income while making a significant gift to Alliance for Housing and Healing. If your unitrust grows, your payments will grow too, providing a hedge against inflation. A unitrust provides more flexibility than other life income plans.
